$25 Whale Boat from Larry Brown Years later after the park had closed, a compatriot and I paid Walter Sherman $25 to purchase one of the whale boats that lay in "dry dock." We had visions of dropping a Chevy 283 engine in the craft and tooling around the North Shore fishing. Walter, being no fool, knew we would never find the crane, sling and flat bed it would take to move our mammoth prize. I wonder how many times over he sold that boat? |

Rolls-Canardly from Bill Valentine I once overheard Walter calling the local auto parts store. His side of the telephone conversation went like this: Hello, this is Sherman at Pleasure Island. Ya, fine. Hey, I need a carberator for a 1952 Rolls-Canardly dump truck. You got one? What?? (yelled, angry, but with a grin on his face) Damn it, it's a 1952 Roll-Canardly dump truck. Haven't you ever heard of a Roll-Canardly you *@&$%# nummy. (real angry, now! but also grinning) That's right, a Rolls-Canardly... It rolls down one hill and canardly make it up the next. (big grin on Walters face as he hangs up the phone.) |

Charlie from Bill Valentine Here's a good project for Bob McLaughlin: When the movie Charly was made, there were several scenes that were not used in the movie. One scene that was not used had Walter Sherman playing a guard at the front gate. Cliff Robertson asks Walter if he and Claire Bloom can come into the park. Walter motions NO. Then, Cliff Robertson gives Walter some money and Walter swings the gate open. I wonder it that unused footage is still around a Hollywood studio somewhere. It would be great if we could get those clips. |
